Charlotte Hornets Rumors: The New York Knicks Find Jeremy Lin’s Defense “Too Gaping ”
It has been reported that the New York Knicks, who are looking for a point guard this off-season, find Charlotte Hornets’ guard, Jeremy Lin’s, defense “too gaping.”
In a recent report from the NYPost, a source close to the team says that the New York Knicks find Jeremy “Lin’s defense too gaping.” The point guard is coming off of a great season with the Charlotte Hornets. He is set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
The report from the NYPost also said that the Knicks are searching for a point guard this off-season and Lin may be on their list. But with the team not being attracted to Jeremy’s play on the defensive side of the ball, it could limit the amount of money or effort they out into signing him. Many teams will be going after Lin this summer.
With the New York Knicks hiring of their new head coach, Jeff Hornacek, this off-season, they will be looking to bring in a top-level point guard to add to their roster. The team has been a bottom Eastern Conference team for the past few seasons but they will be looking to spend big money this summer.
I have no idea why the Knicks would think that Lin’s defense is gaping. He has improved mightily on that end of the floor. He also averaged the second most blocks among point guards this past year with 0.54 blocks per game. He also averaged 0.7 steals per game. Jeremy was one of the best perimeter defenders on the Hornets this past season and he helped lead Charlotte to a top-10 defense in the NBA.
After having a reputation of being bad defensively, the stigma still has not left Lin’s side. It is clear that the narrative has been written on Jeremy and it isn’t set to change any time soon. But it is clear that he is a better defender than he has been in the past. He is not a liability on that end of the floor.
Lin averaged 11.7 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, and 3.0 assists per game this past season. He also shot 41.2% from the field and 33.6% from the three-point line in 26.3 minutes per game. Jeremy played in all but four games this year with the Charlotte Hornets.
The Hornets have expressed their interest in wanting to bring back Lin next season but it may be more difficult than it seems. The team has a number of free agents that they are going to try to re-sign this off-season and Jeremy may be on the lower end of the priority list.

Many other teams have been linked to Jeremy Lin this off-season such as the Houston Rockets, the Brooklyn Nets, and the Detroit Pistons. He will command a lot of money on the open market as he is one of the top free agent, point guards this summer.
It will be interesting to see where Jeremy ends up this summer. He will have his choice of teams as there will be plenty of them wanting to sign him. The Charlotte Hornets will be hoping that he takes a pay cut to stay with the team as they look to build on last seasons’ success.
